Program Information
Our competitive programs allow for our members to fully immerse themselves in the competitive world of swimming. From beginner competitive (Train to Train) swimming to National level competition (Train to Win), there is a program carefully curated to benefit each swimmer's needs. Members of our competitive program have the opportunity to represent our club on a Provincial, National and International stage.
Our Pre-Competitive Program focuses on the FUNdamentals and Learn to Train phases of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) plan. Our goal, first and foremost, is to introduce kids to physical activity in a fun and safe environment. Members of our pre-competitive group will learn the basic and correct competitive swimming techniques so they are prepared to advance to the competitive stream when ready.
The Shark Bait Program is our re-branded Tuesday and Thursday Swim for Life lesson program that the Sackville Swim Club has been proudly offering since 2015. Participants must have completed a minimum level of Swimmer 1 in the Swim for Life lesson program (or similar level of equivalency). This program is for children aged 6 to 10 years old.
At the end of each session, swimmers will earn an evaluation with a report card through the Swim for Life swim lessons program as well as the added bonus of becoming stronger swimmers. As an incentive, any swimmer that completes Swimmer 4 or higher within this program can join the Minnows (Pre-competitive Swim Club) with their first month free!
*NEW* Fit for Life: Our Fit-for-Life swim lessons are perfect for youth aged 10 and up who want to stay active in the water without the pressure of competition. This is where fitness meets fun! These sessions focus on building endurance, improving technique, and developing a lifelong love of swimming at your own pace. Whether you are looking for a place to exercise or want to work towards the water skills needed to become a lifeguard - this group is for you!
Our Saturday Swim for Life program emphasizes lots of in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills. We incorporate valuable Water Smart® education that will last a lifetime. We offer two (2) modules of the National Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program here: Preschool and Swimmer. These modules flow together seamlessly and allow for children to grow their confidence in and around water.
Lifeguarding is an exciting and rewarding job that carries great responsibility. Lifeguards train hard for events they hope will never happen and which they work hard to prevent. When prevention fails, lifeguards are ready to respond as expert rescuers.
How to become a lifeguard
Lifeguards are good swimmers who take lifesaving and first aid training in the Society’s Bronze medal and first aid awards. Bronze Cross is the Lifesaving Society’s assistant lifeguard award and a prerequisite to National Lifeguard certification. To earn National Lifeguard certification you must be a minimum 15 years of age and hold Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid certifications.
